Think 50s style dresses, think Marilyn Munroe

The title says it all, think of one woman and how many times has the clothing she wore inspired designers of today. So many designers have created adaptations of the 50s style dresses that the icon was often seen wearing, and even today 60 years on they are still captivating, relevant and extremely popular. There are many different styles that Marilyn was seen wearing, and some of her most famous and memorable shots are her in the wiggle dress, something that clung to her perfectly and showcased her figure immensely.

During the 50s there were many dresses that were popular, the rockabilly dress was also one, it was a fun and big dress that women loved to wear at dances, the petticoat was also a very popular choice, keeping your skirt big was the thing during this era. There are so many different styles and shapes and yet they were all perfect in their own rights, no one complained about what people were wearing, no one bothered that they weren’t as slim or as tall, today it is a different story, people worry about how they look in clothes and everything has to be perfect. Back in the 50s dresses were made to suit all women of all sizes, and this is why the rockabilly dress is still a winning number, it can hide a whole number of insecurities and still look wonderful on, women of sizes 6-8 upto 16-18 + can wear the dresses and be able to pull them off.

Everyone should be able to enjoy fashion like they did back in the 50s, 50s style dresses are always going to be a wonderful and popular choice, they are always going to be in demand, many women from all different walks of life wear the dresses, especially the rockabilly, they can be elegant at a wedding and they can also be perfect if you want to rock out and pair one up with some docs, the dresses are endless, you can go anywhere in them and because the prints are so varied you will be able to wear one when you like where you like and fit in perfect.

Don’t be afraid to try something new, although you are probably wearing the inspired versions already, why not go back and wear the real things. No matter what item of clothing you look at, many of the cuts, styles, designs and shapes have been inspired by the 50s somewhere along the process. It was an era that started something new and it didn’t end there, it continued right up to today, and no doubt will go further. Enjoy clothing and love being a little retro for a time.
